TRACKS & RIDERS
______________________________________________________________________

Geoff Mudge, the very popular Pirates
Skipper, who led them to their first
Division 1 Championship in 1969, and scored almost 3,000
Points
for the Pirates over the course of his Racing Career at
Wimborne Road.
Interestingly,
Geoff is on board what looks like a Maurmatt Frame.
Look at those front forks and then compare them with the
forks
in the picture below which were typical of the Rotrax -
Staride era.
The Frame above was
made by a one time Team mate of of Geoff's
Southampton Saint and Poole Pirate - Maury Mattingly

An interesting Photo from 1960 with Allan
Kidd in a striped Race Jacket.
The 1960 Team wore Blue and White Stripes as
Liverpool had adopted the Skull and Crossbones for that
Season. Possibly the first example of corporate identity
as the Knott Family also ran Southampton at that time
who of course raced in Red and White stripes.

Tony Lewis started
his Career with Poole in 1950 in a Team that included
Ken Middleditch. By the time Tony hung his leathers up
in 1968,
he had helped Poole to achieving 5 League titles and 4
Runners Up positions.
Hispoints tally over the years of 1,785 Points, ranks
him No 10
in the Poole Pirates all time greatest Points Scorers,
