______________________________________________________________________

Another very rare photo taken at the entrance to the
Pits.
It is, of course, Ronnie Moore, Bjorn Knutsson and Barry
Briggs.
All World Champions ~ we did get to watch some great
Riders didn't we !
______________________________________________________________________

The great 'Briggo' at his best
______________________________________________________________________

Briggo again ~ as if you need telling who it is
______________________________________________________________________

WOW ~ This has got to be Briggo starting off a Handicap.
As we saw him do so many times
catching up and riding around the opposition.

The ever popular 'Skipper' - Dick Bradley

Another great
character ~ Brian Brett

The 1952 Southampton Team

Charlie Knott (The Guv'nor) inspects the 1955 Saints
Team
with Skipper Ernie Rawlins, who was killed at
Southampton the following year,
on board an Erskine Staride with Team Manager, Mike
Erskine (far left).
I know we've said it before, but ~ just look at that
crowd !

Dick Bradley on his JAP - a good Team Captain for many
years with Saints
______________________________________________________________________

A very early pre War picture of the Saints Team that
beat Lea Bridge
Third from left is Frank Goulden who would later be Team
Manager.
______________________________________________________________________

Another great Saints line up ~ Peter Vandenburg, Bert
Croucher (Team Manager)
Alby Golden,
Dick Bradley (on Bike), Cyril Roger, Bjorn Knutsson,
Barry Briggs, Charles Knott (Promoter) and Chum Taylor.

Waterman in the Team

Bert Croucher on an Erskine Staride with another Saints
Team.
Can you spot what is wrong with this photo ?
The Answer is at the bottom of
THIS page.
______________________________________________________________________

1956 ~ Bert Croucher is now Team Manager and Ernie
Rawlins (on Bike) who
was Captain again that year, lost his life at Banister
Court that Season.
Many will remember Tom Misselbrook, stood behind Charles
Knott, who was
a regular at Banister Court and one time Clerk of the
Course.

Ove
Fundin leads Bjorn Knutsson at Banister
Court in a Golden Helmet Match Race.
_______________
They
were just two, of what Supporters back in
those days referred to as 'The Big Five' Ove
and Bjorn were joined by Peter Craven,
Ronnie Moore and our own Barry Briggs, who
were considered so good, they were
handicapped 25 yards in every Meeting. |
______________________________________________________________________

Nobody ever found out exactly what the Boys were all
laughing at, but rumour has it Bert was saying to
Charlie: "Come off it Guv'nor, can't we go and have a
Cup of Tea? We've been looking for that Half Crown you
lost for 3 hours now."

Sincere thanks to Steve Brown for sending in many of
these great Saints photos.
